“Painted exterior of house. Replace siding in several areas. If you want quality work, go with this company. I asked for bids from several companies. Lake Area was the only company that did not write up a bid on the spot. Jim came back a week after the initial meeting. He had a multi-page write up that we went through together. Specific problems were documented (along all 4 sides of my house), along with pictures of those areas, and solutions to the various problems. I was blown away by the thoroughness and professionalism. We discussed the process from start to finish. Jim also presented various itemized options, and I was able to choose very specifically the parameters for the job. NONE of the other contractors did any of this. Lake Area also had a designer come out and work with me on color selection. Due to time constraints with other contractors doing additional work on my house, I didn’t think that I’d be able to use this company, but they were able to move projects around and accommodate me. The crew assigned to my house (John, Tony, Chad) was extremely professional and knowledgeable. John (project manager) kept me informed every step of the way. It was a pleasure to work with them. This company was higher priced than the others, but well worth it. They use the highest quality products and do things the right way. I would use them again in a heartbeat!!!!”

“Jim the owner and his employee showed up on time and spent about a half hour going over the work I wanted done. Than Jim left and his employee started the work. First the employee went over some paper-work with me and gave me a card to give him upon leaving if I was happy with the work. Than he made sure to lay down and hang tarps in order to avoid any spill over problems. He appeared to be very careful with everything he did. Jim stopped by several times during the day to make sure everything was progressing as planned. Although these were small areas I would for sure employ this company to do even big jobs in the future. “They restored our kitchen cabinets by removing stains, sanding, staining and applying clear coat varnish. I liked our cabinet style but they were 26 years old and light wood and had numerous stains over time, especially on the cabinet fronts over the stove and by the sink where heat and water had deteriorated the varnish. I was almost embarrassed to get an estimate because they looked so bad. But they assured me that they could make them look new again. It didn’t seem possible, but they wrote on the estimate “will make look new”….and it worked. The job took three days. When I saw how good the cabinets were looking I had them also restore two doors in the kitchen. They covered counters and appliances with plastic, so no problems with stains. Love the fresh look. Note: they do offer a winter/holiday discount. I waited until December so I could get the lower price.”

“Never having had someone come in to paint for us, we didn’t know what to expect. Jim and Norah met in the driveway and started unloading their painting equipment. No time wasted. We were not sure about a color we picked out so they put it on the wall in several different lighted areas. We chose a different shade, no problem. “I have a 1962 wood sided rambler. I asked Jim to take a look at the house and let me know if it would be worth painting or if I should have the house sided. I wanted to hire him as a consultant so that he could be paid for his time in case I didn’t move ahead with the painting job. After careful consideration, Jim told me that if I had the house painted, it would require stripping the siding to bare wood, then prime and paint. For the cost of painting, Jim recommended that I have the house sided instead. I was so impressed with his honesty. Before emailing Lake Area Painting for an estimate, I checked online for reviews (Angie’s List) and then checked out the company’s website. There were examples on the site of painting some of the old homes in Stillwater. Since I work in Stillwater, I am very familiar with what homeowners need done with painting those old beauties. Jim’s explanations were right on and in line with what other homeowners have shared with me. I would HIGHLY recommend Jim for his integrity and honesty! I checked out several painting companies and Lake Area Painting really went to the top of the list. Though I won’t be using Jim’s services (per his own recommendation which speaks for itself!) for my house project, I was extremely impressed with his service. Jim even returned one of my phone calls while he was on vacation in Mexico. I’d call that top notch service. “We’ve recently moved into a newly built home and wanted to add a feature wall to the bedroom using wallpaper. We soon found out that wall papering is not such a popular trade these days, but my wife found Lake Area Painting & Decorating and asked them if they could do the work.
So glad they could. We were told that the wall would need to be treated with size to reduce the absorbency of the young wall. It was expected to be done in one day and then papered the next.
John arrived and immediately showed great respect for our home, removing his shoes at the door and making friends with our little dog, -not easy- before getting set up with floor coverings preparation. (The dog concentrated all her efforts on barking at the builders down the road instead of John, letting him walk in front of her many times without a sound)
He let us know that it was possible he might be able to get back in the afternoon to do the papering, which was great news.
Sure enough, we got a call to say he could be back in 20 minutes, and the papering began. I was brought up in a house that had every room wallpapered. I’d seen the most awful work, and some good work, but never the excellence that John has produced. I know there are joins between strips, but I can’t find them. Just a lovely job.
